Township tourism through the residents’ eyes : an analysis in Katutura, Windhoek

Hochschule Neubrandenburg, 2026

Abstract: The study eyplores residents´perceptions of township tourism in Katutura in relation to housing and environmental living conditions. Based on the ToPo-Town Project, it examines sustainable tourism from social, economic, and environmental perspectives. Katutura is historically shaped by apartheid and socially culnerable, yet culturally significant. A survey of 30 residents showed generally positive attitudes and strong interest in the Heritage-House-Project, despite limited knowledge. No link between living conditions and tourism perceptions was. found.
