Abstract: The point of origin are the competencies and skills which every child entering the primary school brings along with. The knowledge about the developmental psychological and neurobiological pre-conditions of children in this phase of development and the knowledge about conditions which children need that educational processes succeed play a role. With a selective observation and documentation in form of a portfolio, issues of the children can be detected and used for a child-oriented pedagogy. The monitoring of commitment and emotional well-being can show, how at children in different situations learning processes take place.
