Abstract: In this thesis you find a comparison of three different GPS-hand-receivers for the documentation of pipes inventory in public utility companies. Each appliance is described and evaluated through the criteria?s accuracy, handling, qualification, efficiency and costs. A standardized test-area with three different classes of shadowing effects was defined for the evaluation of the hand-receivers. The result of the test is the recommendation of one hand-receiver and technology, which is the most suitable for the use in public utility companies. Further different methods of position finding of cables are described, compared and tested. The advantages and disadvantages of application?s range are shown at a glance.
