Hochschule Neubrandenburg, 2023

Abstract: Deviations from the normal behaviour of calves (German Holsteins) in motherless rearing described here (daily rhythm, resting, feeding, social behavior as well as locomotion and play behaviour) indicate inadequate rearing conditions. A maximum drinking entitlement up to the 49th day of life and moderate weaning (weaning age at least 105 days) ensure long rest periods, few failed attempts at the drinking station and a high intake of complementary feed by the calves.
